Oregon Attornet General John Kroger on Tuesday announced the settlementt withTJX Cos. over a data breacy that exposed an estimated 94 million crediyt and debit card numbers nationwideeto hackers. The 41-state settlement involves what is believer to be the largest ever data breach by a Hackers intercepted the credit and debiy card numbers between 2005and 2007. Anyone in Oregom who used a credit or debit card to purchase goodafrom T.J. Maxx or Marshalls in that time fram e could havebeen affected. The settlemen t requires TJX to implement and maintain a comprehensive informationsecurithy program. TJX also will repor regularly to theattorneys general.
Under the TJX must: • Appropriately segment from the rest of the TJX computee system portions of the system that storw informationby firewalls, access controls, and other appropriate measures; and Implement proper security password management for portionx of the TJX computer system that store, process or transmit personapl information.
