The North Assembly plant, which produces Dodg e Ram trucks, had been by the end of so Chrysler’s announcement Wednesday provided anexacrt date. The Fenton North plant is set to resume production June 29 untilkJuly 10, Chrysler said, and then will remain idlee “contingent upon volumes.” The truck segment has takenb a particular hit as auto sales have declined. Diannz Gutierrez, a Chrysler spokeswoman, said workersa at the plant will have an opportunituy to transfer to other productio sites or take part in an incentive program for early retirement, special early retirement program, and/oe an enhanced voluntary terminationn program.
She didn’t have exact details of the new offerd but said it would be similaer to previous offers thatincluded lump-sum cash vehicle vouchers and health-care coverage. The North Assembly plant was idlec inearly June, but was one of sevenh plants where Chrysler production following the idling of all its plants when it filed for Chaptet 11 bankruptcy April 30. Afteer its brief reopening, the plant was then expected to clos fora two-week summe r break the weeks of July 13 and 20.
Chryslerf emerged from bankruptcy when Italian carmaker Fiat closedc a deal to takeover Chrysler’s assets. Chrysler’sd South Plant in Fenton, which assembles was idled at the endof October. Another 115 of its more than 350 workers had accepted offers fromChrysler
