Lorton, Va.-based which awardss franchise rights to locations of theburgedr joint, has filed a Notice of Exempt Offerinhg of Securities. The company is privately Five Guys has recently enjoyed attention from both Presidentf Barack Obama and First LadyMichelle Obama, who separatelh made high-profile visits there. The president's sojournm was captured on cameraby NBC, whicuh was following him around for a profile The document does not specify why the mone is being raised. According to the filing, Five Guys has alreadyh raised $10 million of the $15 million it is trying to raise.
Namexd in the document are Victof andJane Murrell, both executive officers and directord for the company, as well as directors Jamed Murrell, John Kim and H. Scott Miller. Spokeswomabn Molly Catalano said she did not have specificx details on how the capital would be but said that it was forthe company's generalo business operations. The filing says the offering is not being made in connectioh witha merger, acqiusition or exchange offer. The company’sz creator, Jerry Murrell, opened the first Five Guys asa carry-ourt operation in 1986, in a shoppinb center on Glebe Road in Arlington. After opening five corporate locations inthe D.C. area, the company decidecd to franchisein 2002.
The fast-casual burger concept now has more than 300 location s in25 states.
